RTDNA has announced the appointment of Terence Shepherd to its board of directors, representing Region 13, which includes Georgia, Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Shepherd, news director at WLRN-FM in Miami, joined the station in 2011 as assignment editor. He is president of the South Florida Black Journalists Association and actively participates in other professional journalism organizations, including AAJA, NABJ, NAHJ, ONA, SABEW and SEJ. Before joining the station, Terence was managing editor of a financial website and previously spent 14 years editing business and financial coverage at The Miami Herald, where he led development of the desk's mulitimedia products, including WLRN's "Friday Business Report."
"Terence Shepherd is an outstanding journalist," said RTDNA Chairman Chris Carl. "We're fortunate to have him bring his leadership and management skills to our board of directors."
WLRN-Miami Herald News won two national Edward R. Murrow Awards and 10 regional Murrow Awards for its coverage in 2013. The Region 13 seat on the board became vacant when former regional director Amy Tardif became chair-elect of RTDNA. Shepherd begins his duties immediately.
