Excellence in Journalism 2013 (EIJ13), produced by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), runs August 24-26, and features cutting-edge industry training sessions to build your knowledge and advance your career, with more being added every week on the conference website.

Reserve your room at the Anaheim Marriott while rooms are still available. Learn more online about the accommodations if you haven't booked yet. Looking for a roommate to share hotel costs? Visit the roommate board to leave a comment and find others who are looking for a roommate.

Discuss the conference ahead of time. Find out who's coming to Southern California. Do it all by keeping up on Twitter using the #EIJ13 hashtag, and by monitoring the Twitter list of conference speakers/presenters. And don't forget to join EIJ13 on Facebook for exciting conference updates and discussions!

Due to its huge popularity, the official Excellence in Journalism 2013 Conference App is back for its fourth year. The app acts as your personal passport to the event: Browse sessions, plan your schedule, connect with others and see where everything is happening - it's all in one app! Click here to get it.

Choose from more than 50 breakout sessions for professional development. The conversation topics include leadership, diversity, storytelling, personal branding and more. There are plenty of opportunities to grow and learn.

The exhibit floor, J Expo, is a hub of opportunities and connections waiting to be made. J Expo is a great place to mingle between sessions and on breaks, so take a look at the 40+ exhibitors and recruiters you'll have access to in August, including newsroom technology companies, journalism schools and more.

Need some one-on-one or small-group feedback? Stop by "The Doctor Is In" for a few minutes or the full two hours and immerse yourself in a roundtable discussion or two. At "The Doctor Is In" you can talk to experts about your areas of passion, interest and needed improvement. This is your time to get customized, individualized feedback. Scheduled topics are personal branding, FOI, ethics, diversifying news sources, journalists' rights, narrative storytelling, freelancing and more! Even though some roundtable topics will be designated prior to EIJ13, others will be suggested on-site from attendee feedback. Send suggestions to #EIJDR on Twitter.

Take time to receive résumé, video and social media advice from seasoned colleagues. To view a schedule, see the critiques section of the highlights page on the EIJ13 website.

At EIJ, you won't be bored between sessions. Check out some of the activities planned during the conference:

  • The Chrysler Health Pavilion - Participate in activities to learn about health and wellness (prizes included).
  • "Latino Americans" documentary screening - Get a preview of this upcoming PBS television series and participate in a discussion with PBS NewsHour senior correspondent Ray Suarez.
  • Book signings - Buy some of the great books in the BookMart and get them signed by six authors who will be at the conference.
  • Gannett Salon - Meet dozens of journalists from many of Gannett's nearly 100 local news organizations.

Sign up for the Whirlwind Hollywood Tour during your EIJ13 registration, and experience a guided walking and driving tour of Hollywood. You'll see sites like the Walk of Fame, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, The Rock Wall, The Chateau Marmont and more. Claim your spot in this adventure because space is limited.

The Opening Night Reception is sponsored by CNN Newsource.
