Al Tompkins and Lynn French explore the following ethical issue raised online using a number of cases, we will explore how you make tough calls on the following questions:
• Do you have different standards and apply different editorial judgment for content that you on-air vs. online?
• Do you need rules to cover how journalists in your newsroom use such social media sites as Twitter or Facebook, even when they’re "off the clock?"
• What new problems come when you open your Web site news stories to public comment? How responsible are you for what others say?
• How do you know if the video, photos or information that people post on your site is real?
• What are your ethical concerns when linking or aggregating?
• Do you have guidelines for journalists who are personally blogging or blogging on your site?
• How are you attributing the information you obtain from an online source?
