In 2007 the RTDNF inaugurated a fellowship program in Germany for American news managers. Eleven managers visited newsrooms and met with news executives in Berlin and Hamburg. In October, 2009, ten news directors and editors will visit German newsrooms under the second program for leading news managers.� Our next program in

If you are an American radio, television or online journalist working for a local station, regional cable channel or national network, you may qualify for the study program in Germany. Each year, we conduct programs in cities such as: Berlin, the renewed capital of Germany; western German cities such as Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Stuttgart; eastern cities such as Leipzig, Potsdam and Dresden; as well as Brussels, home of NATO and the European Union.

Program alumni and interested friends of the program are encouraged to host a visiting broadcast journalist from Germany. German RIAS fellows spend one week at American stations, learning how news is gathered, information is conveyed, and stories are chosen and presented.

Cash awards for excellence in reporting on German/American issues are presented annually by RIAS Berlin. Up to $10,000 is divided among the winners in the radio, television and new media categories, with prizes typically in the range of $2,000. The application deadline is January 15, 2010 for stories that have aired�during calendar year 2009.
