615 Music and NBC's "Today" Team Up for New "Your Day is Today" Campaign

September 18, 2009, New York, NY, and Nashville, TN -- NBC’s “Today” and 615 Music have teamed up once again to introduce a new theme song, “Your Day is Today,” as part of a new promotional campaign. The new tune is a fresh, contemporary song sung by Paisley Van Patten. Of their longtime client, 615 Music President Randy Wachtler said, “Today’ is the preeminent morning program in America.  We are always thrilled and challenged to write and produce the very best for NBC and ‘Today.’”

The video that accompanies “Your Day is Today” incorporates the show’s principals, includes behind-the-scenes clips, and centers on the people and atmosphere that make “Today” the exceptional morning program for which it has long been acclaimed.

Wachtler adds, “We are honored to again have been asked to create original music for the ‘Today’ show. Our association with NBC and ‘Today’ over the past several years has enabled us to earn multiple Daytime Emmy Awards nominations in the category of ‘Best Original Song.’ When NBC and 615 Music work together, the results are always amazing.”

    ABOUT “TODAY”:

NBC News pioneered the morning news program when it launched “Today” over 56 years ago, with Dave Garroway as host. The four-hour live broadcast provides the latest in domestic and international news, weather reports and interviews with newsmakers from the worlds of politics, business, media, entertainment and sports. After more than 48 years of the standard two-hour format, the third hour was launched in October of 2000, making “Today” the only three hour national morning show broadcast. The fourth hour launched in September of 2007. The program is unparalleled in its ratings dominance in the morning news arena, serving as America’s overwhelming favorite for 11 consecutive years.

AP Mobile Rings In One-Year Anniversary

AP Mobile rings in one-year anniversary, more than 55 million local stories read by consumers on the go

NEW YORK -- This month, The Associated Press celebrates the one-year anniversary of AP Mobile and announced that more than 55 million local stories have been read on AP Mobile, www.apnews.com, since its May 2008 launch. The AP Global Product Development team paved the way for the largest and most respected news cooperative in the world to enter the mobile apps market, starting with the creation of the first iPhone mobile news application, which made its debut during Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote address at the 2008 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.

Since then, AP member participation has grown 887% with more than 1,000 trusted local sources choosing to distribute their news on AP Mobile -- compared to 107 AP member news organizations that signed up at the May 2008 launch. To this day, AP Mobile continues to be a leader in mobile news and is one of the most popular news applications, recognized by TIME Magazine, The New York Times and the Webby Awards.

“Delivering more than 55 million local stories demonstrates that this is the year of mobile for news consumers. The AP Mobile readership places a high value on news that is increasingly local and relevant to their communities,” said Jeff Litvack,AP's mobile and emerging products general manager. “Mobile is increasingly personal. Now, more than ever, consumers want access to news and information that affects their lives, and AP Mobile is here to fill this gap.”

    AP Mobile Reader Demographics*
    - Age – 63% of AP Mobile users are in the coveted 18-34 age bracket.
    - Income – 53% of AP Mobile users earn more than $75,000 per year.
    - Gender – Men represent 78% of traffic to all subject areas, and 82% for sports.
    - Ethnicity – AP Mobile users include members of virtually all ethnic groups.
    - Education – More than half of AP Mobile users have bachelors or advanced degrees.
    - Employment – 80% of AP Mobile users are currently employed.

“The audience of Americans accessing news and information from a mobile device has grown 58 percent over the past year,” said Mark Donovan, senior analyst at comScore. “Efforts by publishers to deliver mobile-optimized content are paying off as increasingly, consumers rely on their mobile devices to keep them connected to their favorite local media outlets.”

AP Mobile Traffic: News Mobile Users Choose*
    - On average, AP Mobile users spend 17 minutes per month interacting with AP mobile applications and apnews.com.
    - More than 50% of AP Mobile news accessed fall in the content category of Top Stories, followed by Local News (21%), Entertainment (9%) and Sports (7%).
    - iPhone and BlackBerry users both average 7 page views per visit to AP Mobile.
    - AP Mobile users access news consistently throughout the week - just as much, if not slightly more, during the first half of the week, including Sunday.

“From a technical standpoint, what we’ve learned is that consumers continue to seek news on-demand from a user interface that is simple and entertaining. The growing popularity of iPhone and mobile apps illustrate how, even during challenging economic times, consumers are looking for quality experiences,” added Litvack.

Recognizing the demand, AP forged relationships with a growing number of handset manufacturers including Nokia, RIM and Windows Mobile as well as wireless carriers such as AT&T and Virgin Mobile USA. In recent months, AP entered the international market with the development of French and English language versions of The Canadian Press Mobile and launched Noticias de AP a Spanish language app available on BlackBerry App World. AP tapped QuadrantONE to provide national mobile ad sales support. In April, AP teamed up with Marketwire to deliver the AP Mobile Press Release Channel.

AP Mobile was launched in May 2008 as the first product released by AP's Digital Cooperative, an initiative aimed at finding new digital outlets for news and information produced by AP members. AP Mobile currently covers the entire 100 top designated market areas boasting a growing number of content contributors to create a seamless, rich mobile news media experience. FX Group Launches Audience Connection Strategy at NAB 2009 through RTNDA session – Visually Connect with your Viewers.

AT RTNDA @ NAB 2009 FX Group is offering broadcast journalists and managers new insight about their viewers.   Digital and high definition news means viewers are seeing things they never saw before.  Some of it they like and some they don’t!  Want to know how you can have more of what the new digital savvy viewers are looking for?

FX Group commissioned Frank N. Magid Associates to conduct a landmark research study.  The details of this national, quantitative study show stunning results that the visual setting, tone and quality of a newscast really do matter, especially in HD.
In fact, it now plays a pivotal role in the viewers’ choice of which newscasts they watch.  The surprising results pointed to elements that are often overlooked as key to the strategy of gaining or even retaining audience share:  set and graphic design, talent appearance, lighting, shot framing, choreography and the overall visual style of the newscast.

As a special presentation, FX Group will introduce the highlights of these research results during Visually Connect with your Viewers as one of the RTNDA conference sessions on Tuesday April 21 at 10:45AM.  The takeaway will help television executives focus on what aesthetics drive viewers to a newscast as well as what alienates them and will help any station focus on how to invest in their news product more effectively.

Knowing that many executives will not be able to attend RTNDA or NAB, FX Group will make this research accessible in the future to stations on the FX website www.fxgrouponline.com after NAB. FX is also offering individual on-site presentation packages which include a visit by FX Group experts to present the research results to a station’s team, as well to offer recommendations for implementing customized changes so that station can work to meet the demands of their new digital viewers.  This study covers more than sets and can help any station spend their money more wisely, especially when stations are looking to commit capital for going HD or building or refurbishing a set.

FX Group is an award-winning design company delivering projects worldwide for the entertainment and experiential marketing industries.  Its clients range from television, corporate meetings and trade shows, to museums, theaters and theme parks with clients throughout the US as well as internationally.  Headquartered in the Orlando area, FX is unique in that its design studio and fabrication facility are located under one roof, yielding cost and logistics efficiencies no other company can offer.  In addition, FX operates sales offices in Dallas, Texas and Huntsville, Alabama.

"Killer Blue--Baptized By Fire": AP Releases War Anniversary Multimedia Package

With this week's sixth anniversary of the war in Iraq, the Associated Press has released a photography and video package profiling "Killer Blue: Baptized By Fire," a unit of the Fort Hood, TX, based 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment's 3rd squadron. Living with the unit for more than four months, AP documented not only their combat in Iraq but their return home to Fort Hood as the soldiers tried to assimilate back into normal, daily, routine life in the States on base.

AP journalists were using video technology to produce the piece but did so without conventional means such as voice-over or narration. Photojournalist Evan Vucci, was a "driving force" behind the overall effort and was one of several AP staffers who contributed video and photographs to the piece.

"Killer Blue" was one of the last Army units to serve a 15-month combat tour in Iraq, in one of the country's most dangerous cities, Mosul, and two of the unit's soldiers were killed in combat. The new multimedia package follows up on a 2008 video essay by AP photojournalists Vucci and Maya Alleruzzo that depicted the "lucky charms" carried by seven members of the Killer Blue unit. In the original piece the duo reported on the unit for four months. In May 2008, AP photojournalist Rick Bowmer covered Caldwell's funeral in Spokane, WA, and later during the summer Bowmer covered Regalado's homecoming when the soldier met his newborn daughter for the first time. Then in November 2008, Bowmer had to cover Regalado's funeral.

When the Killer Blue unit returned home to Fort Hood, Bowmer and Vucci were there in Texas to document their re-entry into life that was not a war zone that posed constant threats.

The video from "Killer Blue" was distributed to all of AP’s online video customers (whether through AP’s Online Video Network, which has some 2,100 affiliates, or AP subscription services).

Watch "Killer Blue: Baptized By Fire" online here.

DDG & WBFF-TV Make History in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD: Sinclair Broadcast Group’s WBFF-TV had a big first in Baltimore during May sweeps with the debut of the first HD news set to hit the market. The Fox station’s new set is part of a total HD scenic re-design Devlin Design Group is creating for 14 Sinclair stations nationwide.

“Devlin Design Group helped Fox45 achieve another milestone in Baltimore television history by building the first and only HD news set in the market,” said Bill Fenshawe, Group Manager for Sinclair Broadcast Group. “We’re very pleased with our new set – and very excited to showcase our Emmy Award-winning news operation in our new studios.”

“When WBFF jumped into HD, they went in deep,” said Dan Devlin, DDG’s Creative Director. “This new set gives the station lots of options – and the WBFF team is making the most of it. They’re using every inch of the set in versatile and creative ways – including some even we didn’t think of!”

WBFF Fox45 News Director Scott Livingston agrees. “The versatility is a huge plus. The multiple looks of the set allows us to enhance our storytelling. The set has a lot of unique moving parts that helps showcase our talent.”

DDG is a world leader in scenic design for HD. The Emmy award-winning design firm has created HD sets and studios for broadcasters worldwide, including WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC, the first U.S. station to broadcast in high definition.

Livingston is proud to have his station be the first to bring HD local news to the Baltimore market. “Fox45 has always set the standard for storytelling in Baltimore. Our new set from DDG allows us to raise the bar of excellence even higher.”

AP selects new technology provider for Online Video Network

NEW YORK -- The Associated Press has selected thePlatform, a
Seattle-based video technology provider, to launch a more flexible,
enhanced version of its Online Video Network, which distributes AP's
acclaimed video content to more than 2,000 newspaper, broadcast and
other media Web sites throughout the U.S.

Rollout of the new technology platform, to be completed by December,
will provide network affiliates with greater ability to showcase their
own news video as well as to offer higher video quality for AP's
coverage of world events, which most recently included the Summer
Olympics in Beijing, the U.S. presidential campaign and the hurricanes
that hit Haiti, Louisiana and Texas.

AP's Online Video Network provides in-depth video reports specifically
designed for viewing on the Internet. Brought to market in 2006, the
network now reaches 61 million unduplicated unique visitors through its
    2,100 affiliate sites.

The world's largest newsgathering organization, AP draws on its
worldwide staff of journalists, a global network of news sources and a
rich historical archive to create authoritative video clips of
international and national events, entertainment, sports, and business
    news.

"We've been very aggressive in providing top stories and breaking news
video coverage wherever it happens," said AP Executive Editor Kathleen
Carroll. "For instance, we chased half a dozen hurricanes over Florida
and the Gulf Coast and produced scores of video clips including
first-person accounts, extensive raw video and live streaming. We also
made available to OVN affiliates last week never-before-seen 1973 video
on the release of John McCain when he was a North Vietnam prisoner of
    war."

OVN's technology platform, initially provided by Microsoft, will now be
licensed from thePlatform, an industry leader in the broadband video
management and publishing market, which is a subsidiary of Comcast. In
addition to offering enhanced content, AP will offer network affiliates
for the first time a fully embeddable video player for video destination
pages. The new system will also support higher video quality.

"For perspective, this is easily one of the largest online video
initiatives to occur in 2008," said Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform. "In
many ways, it's like launching thousands of individual video sites at
the same time, and we're very proud to help the AP provide broader video
    coverage to millions of viewers."

"The new version of the network will make it easier for our affiliates
to incorporate compelling news video on their Web sites," said Jane
Seagrave, AP's senior vice president of Global Product Development. "As
video becomes the storytelling medium of choice on the Internet, we're
improving the content as well as the technical environment."

Stephen Arnold Music develops custom search engine for globally produced music libraries

Dallas, TX – June 6, 2008 – Strengthening the resources it provides to a broad international clientele, Stephen Arnold Music Vault has developed a search engine that makes all of its music collections available online for the first time. The new search engine—available today at http://search.stephenarnoldmusic.com—is the result of extensive research to determine the best possible approach to finding, accessing and using this globally produced music collection.

In addition to providing instant access to the Stephen Arnold Music Vault, the search engine will allow customers to access its extensive collection of music tracks by H2U and 3Volution. H2U is a Swiss and German company, comprised of three of the most successful award-winning album artists and commercial ad composers in Europe. 3volution has developed music for some of the highest profile video games and movie soundtracks in the U.S. and is known for its bone-crushing heavy metal sounds.

“Beyond simply reviewing our research findings, we listened closely to the needs of our customers to create a search engine that serves multiple purposes,” said Stephen Arnold. “The resulting service features an intuitive, user-friendly interface that makes our collections far easier to access.”

What sets the new Stephen Arnold Music Vault search engine and library apart from others is a combination of high-quality and simplicity. The collections are managed and developed by real composers rather than merely agents, with most tracks created for real projects and scored to picture. The melodies, chord changes and hooks are not merely loops and textures strung together and mixed on a computer, as is now so typical in the industry.

Instead of sorting through sets of CDs, Stephen Arnold Music’s customers can enter a search term and have a perfect and distinctive music cut before them instantly. The search engine is set up to efficiently serve both a user buying a single one-time cut and registered high-volume users. For the pay-per-download user, the new search engine is designed to streamline the process of calculating fees and obtaining clearances, saving time and limiting distraction.

    About Stephen Arnold Music

As a multiple Emmy, Addy and Promax Gold award-winning music production company, Stephen Arnold Music has over 15 years of success in delivering the sounds that make a difference to networks, television stations, advertising agencies, film studios and video game companies the world over. The company's Sonic Branding approach to music production – blending original music compositions with distinct tones and special audio effects – is at the core of its promise of amenable staff and quality service in delivering the sounds of success for all projects. Perceptive Pixel Collaborates with Vizrt to Integrate Vizrt Software with Multi-Touch Display Wall

    May 15, 2008

Vizrt, a leading provider of real-time, integrated broadcast graphics software announces its collaboration with New York-based, Perceptive Pixel. Perceptive Pixel is the creator of the most advanced multi-touch display systems in the world, including the large-scale Media Wall, which has already been seen on-air for coverage of the 2008 U.S. Presidential primaries.

Perceptive Pixel’s Multi-Touch display solutions, now integrated with Vizrt software, enables broadcasters to use its sophisticated and intuitive multi-touch gestures to control graphics presentations that they create with the full line of Vizrt software, including: Viz Artist 3, Vizrt’s animation and visual effects creation tool for high-quality 2D and 3D real-time graphics; Viz Curious Maps mapping software; and Viz Link, a still and clip store workflow solution. Viz Engine supplies uncompressed, real-time graphic and video output. Graphics can be run from Viz Trio character generation software and Viz Content Pilot content management software.

“Extremely large video walls, used as studio backdrops and as interactive tools during election coverage and weather forecasting, represent a fast-growing trend in production,” said Petter Ole Jakobsen, CTO, Vizrt. “Our collaboration with Perceptive Pixel affords broadcasters a large, high-resolution interactive surface and creates the possibility of close-ups and more creative shooting angles. But, the major breakthrough is the integration of Perceptive Pixel’s multi-touch feature with any graphical or video element in Vizrt. The possibilities are endless in terms of the creative potential.”

Perceptive Pixel’s groundbreaking Media Wall is the most advanced multi-touch system available on the market, creating new opportunities for collaboration, interactive image manipulation, and breathtaking information visualizations. The Wall is 94” diagonal, full HD 1080p resolution, and can sense an unlimited number of touch points simultaneously.

It is a complete turn-key system that can be used with its suite of bundled applications, easily integrated with existing single-touch applications, or support the development and deployment of advanced multi-touch native applications with its included Perceptive Pixel Multi-Touch Application Framework SDK.

Perceptive Pixel’s Multi-Touch Workstation is a smaller 55” diagonal HD display, ideal for a single user interacting for extended periods of time, while its height allows walk-up collaborators quick and easy access.

Going beyond the traditional mouse, trackball, or touchscreen, multi-touch allows one or more users to intuitively perform sophisticated manipulation of information or systems using multiple simultaneous points of contact by one or more individuals.

“Vizrt brings us an established artist-friendly platform, dedicated to the creation of live interactive graphics,” said Jeff Han, founder and chief scientist of Perceptive Pixel. “It puts our technology into a professional workflow, while we completely transform the possibilities for interaction with their graphics. The result is a whole new dimension for dynamic interactive storytelling on a studio floor.”

    About Perceptive Pixel:

Perceptive Pixel, Inc. was founded by Jeff Han in 2006 as a spinoff of the NYU Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences to develop and market the most advanced multi-touch system in the world. Contact Perspective Pixel info@perceptivepixel.com or on the web at www.perspectivepixel.com.

VETERINARY NEWS NETWORK DELIVERS RECORD NUMBERS OF CONSUMER IMPRESSIONS

    May 15, 2008

Denver, CO (May 6, 2008) – Veterinarians are taking to the airwaves in a big way. In just six months, the Veterinary News Network (VNN) has generated more than 280 million consumer impressions, making it one of the largest providers of animal health news stories in the country. It expects to easily surpass 500 million consumer impressions during its reporting year. Both are record numbers for the organization which began producing animal health news stories in 2005.

“With 325 media trained veterinarians living and working in virtually every major U.S. media market, we’re able to deliver reliable, accurate and timely animal health news stories to consumers direct from the experts they trust most,” says Dr. Jim Humphries, VNN President and News Director. “And, we’ve strengthened and grown our delivery system to reach consumers through traditional local television and radio broadcasts as well as through in-clinic networks and a wide variety of Internet outlets.”

VNN has produced more than 60 two-minute animal health news stories and produces two new stories each month. Each video focuses on a current animal health or veterinary medical topic. VNN videos are available to view or download at many popular Web sites including www.youtube.com and www.podcastgo.com/vnn. The VNN video library is also available at www.MyVNN.com.

The Coaching Company Launches The Desktop Coachâ„¢

    May 15, 2008

Dallas, Texas—The Coaching Company, one of the industry’s leading newscast consulting and coaching firms for more than two decades, debuts the first and only on-line interactive coaching system. “With The Desktop Coach™, managers and their talent coaches can evaluate and manage talent for real breakthrough performance,” said TCC President and Founder Barry Nash. “And it is powerful and comprehensive enough to support do-it-yourself coaching for those who are interested in that,” said Nash.

The Coaching Company introduced the new system at the RTNDA/NAB in Las Vegas in April. “There was quite a buzz among news managers who previewed The Desktop Coach™,” said TCC’s Jonathan Knopf. “It assesses talent in the areas research has shown matter most to viewers. And it provides the resources managers need to give their on-air talent best practices feedback on a regular basis.”

“With the Performance Tracker feature of The Desktop Coach™, the news manager or talent coach generates a roadmap for growth and improvement in the key areas of performance.” Nash said. “And it doesn’t matter whether someone has two years or 20 years experience. The system is as relevant for the best of the best as it is for beginners. From an HR perspective, everyone is getting feedback based on an equal set of standards. And the system also helps news managers track and schedule follow-up assessments,” Nash continued.

In an environment where news budgets are wound tight, The Desktop Coach™ ensures that anchors and reporters can continue to get the help they need to get better on-the-air. Stations do not have to be TCC consulting and coaching clients to use it. “Everyone we met with in Las Vegas agreed the timing couldn’t be better for a system that is both affordable and powerful,” said Knopf. “While The Coaching Company is always ready to come into a television station and personally work with on air talent, we understand budget restraints and loyalty to relationships with other firms. With The Desktop Coach™, you don’t have to sacrifice either. It makes great financial sense and the return on investment is incredible. And for stations who are interested, we even include a free coaching visit to train the staff on the system,” Knopf said.

“We also re-vamped our website, www.coachingcompany.com to be a true talent development resource and not simply a tool to market our company,” said Nash. “Anyone can access our “Master Class” file of performance recommendations. And Desktop Coach™ clients will have password access to TCC’s library of fundamental and advanced Best Practice recommendations.”

“We’ve been coaching talent at all levels for over 25 years. We know what is important and we know what works,” Nash said. “Whether you hire a professional talent coach or do-it-yourself, The Desktop Coach™ will dramatically increase your chances of making your talent better in the waysthat matter most.”

For more information, contact Barry Nash or Jonathan Knopf at 214-520-2000 or visit The Coaching Company website at www.coachingcompany.com. If you would like a personal demo of The Desktop Coachâ„¢ and Breakthrough Performance Tracker, contact Jonathan Knopf at 732-995-8707 or jonathan@coachingcompany.com.

FX Group unveils the world's first 'green' news sets

    May 8, 2008

ORLANDO, Fla. — Set design firm FX Group has introduced the television news industry's first "green" news set line as part of a company-wide effort to become more earth conscious.

Dubbed EcoFX Green Sets, this innovative new offering is the result of months of collaboration between multiple FX departments.

"We researched alternative, eco-friendly products that can be used in place of our current materials," said Brannen Acor, FX's production manager.

Finding environmentally-friendly construction materials proved very challenging, said Acor.

The company worked with its existing vendors as well as new suppliers to locate products that are recycled or made from renewable resources that still maintain the company's high quality standards that come from FX's 20-plus years of scenic design and construction experience.

Environmentally-conscious stations can chose from a variety of options for green sets, such as making a certain percentage of a new set eco-friendly or using renewable materials on select surfaces or elements.

The ultimate goal in creating EcoFX sets is to maintain FX's awarding-winning design standards while reducing the impact on the environment.

For areas that can't be made environmentally-friendly from practical or budgetary reasons, FX has arrangements to purchase carbon credits that offset the impact the set construction has on the earth.

The cost of a green set varies greatly and depends largely on the overall size of the set and proportion of green materials used.

FX's environmentally-friendly efforts extend into the firm's signature line of sets as well, so non-EcoFX sets are more "green" than before.

Included in these initiatives, FX has implemented several internal initiatives, including the most comprehensive in-house recycling program in the company's history, electricity usage reduction and reuse of scrap and packing materials. In addition, the company's most recent order of letterhead and business cards was produced on recycled paper.

For more information about EcoFX, visit http://www.fxgroup.tv/ecofx/.

WAVE 3-TV “Could not be Happier” with New Set from Devlin Design Group

    April 9, 2008

Louisville, KY:   The Louisville market gets more than its share of severe weather.  But now the market’s being shaken up in another way – with WAVE-TV’s new HD-ready set from Devlin Design Group.  The NBC affiliate’s new look preserves their current 4:3 picture, while allowing them to expand to HD’s 16:9 in the future.

“All of us at WAVE 3 could not be happier with the final outcome of this set,” said Lee Eldridge, WAVE-TV’s News Director.  “We were firm in our vision of desiring depth, versatility and a command presence with weather.  DDG really came through.”

“The enthusiasm for this set from the WAVE 3 staff has been extremely positive and has created urgency in the presentation of our newscasts,” said Dan Foos, Operations Manager for WAVE-TV.  “The set compliments our news brand in reporting severe weather and breaking news, highlighting both our talent and technical expertise.”

“Versatility was definitely the key to this project’s success,” said Dan Devlin, DDG’s Creative Director.  “WAVE 3 needed a set that would set a new broadcast standard in the marketplace right now – and allow them to shine in when they switch to HD.  The WAVE 3 team’s commitment to staying competitive, along with their long-range vision for their station, made for a great partnership.”

“DDG was attentive to our vision and open to the changes we threw at them during the design process,” said Eldridge.  “We feel this set truly supports our product and how we prefer to deliver that product live to our viewers.”  He added, “Not to mention the fact that we’ve already seen our competition attempt to copy its style and use.”

DDG is known for its innovative, award-winning design in 4:3, HD and virtual. The firm created the HD Newsroom set for WRAL-TV, the first U.S. station to broadcast in HD, along with many other national and international broadcasters.  DDG is known worldwide for its experience and expertise in creating scenic design specifically designed for the HD environment.

WSBT Makes the HD Switch with Devlin Design Group

    April 9, 2008

South Bend, IN: When WSBT-TV, South Bend’s CBS affiliate, decided to make the switch to HD – they did it in a big way.  The Schurz Communications station is moving into a brand new building with impressive HD capabilities.  The size and complexity of the project led them to select Devlin Design Group to create the HD scenic design.

“We’ll be broadcasting in HD for the first time, so we were looking for a design company with a reputation for innovative design,” said Bob Johnson, Director of Operations and Programming for WSBT.  “We needed a firm we felt was changing with the times, that was staying on top of the evolution of the technology.  We spoke to people in our company who had worked with Dan before and spoke highly of him.  So after a lot of research, and talking to some of the top design firms, we chose Devlin Design Group.”

“Many stations are making the ‘digital switch’ – but WSBT is creating an HD powerhouse,” said Dan Devlin, DDG’s Creative Director.  “They’re going to rock their market with a new facility, new gear – and an attention-getting new HD look.  DDG is extremely excited to play such a key role in this huge transformation.”

“We want our set to have a dynamite new look, but also stands the test of time,” said Johnson.  “DDG’s reputation and work show that their designs do exactly that.”

DDG is a pioneer in HD scenic design.  The firm created the HD Newsroom set for WRAL-TV, the first U.S. station to broadcast in HD, along with many other national and international broadcasters.  DDG is known worldwide for its experience and expertise in creating scenic design specifically designed for the HD environment.

RF Central’s RFX-PMR-II Portable Digital Receiver Packs a High Performance and Convenience Punch

    January 25, 2008

Carlisle, PA, January 21, 2008 –  RF Central, a leading digital microwave technology provider, is pleased to offer the new RFX-PMR-II portable digital receiver. The receiver is available in both SD and full HD configuration. The rugged unit offers exceptional performance for portable links and is designed for easy and quick set-up for ENG and field applications. In addition, it is weather resistant for broadcasts during adverse climate conditions.

Accommodating FCC channel plans in conjunction with the BAS Relocation Project, the PMR-II offers manual or pre-set channels with tuning in 0.25MHz steps. The unit is capable of receiving frequencies between 1.990 and 2.500GHz. When configured for HD, the PMR-II supports 1080i and 720p formats in addition to SD modes. Demodulation modes include QPSK, 16 QAM and 64 QAM with auto detection.

“Today’s broadcast industry calls for products that offer rugged durability and extreme portability, both of which are featured within the PMR-II,” says RF Central CEO Jeff Winemiller.

In addition, Winemiller says the PMR-II is available at a very critical time. “With many stations still in the midst of completing BAS relocation, the PMR-II is a receiver that meets today’s SD criteria, while also providing a clear path for migration to full HD whenever the customer is ready.”

The PMR-II’s MSRP is $29,650 and is upgradeable to HD for an additional charge of $6,000. For more information on the PMR-II, call 1-866-732-0113 or visit www.rfcentral.com.

THE WASHINGTON D.C. CONVENTION CENTER, BOOTH # 430, NOVEMBER 14-16—Ikegami, the world-leading manufacturer of high-quality broadcast production solutions, is exhibiting a wide range of leading-edge products and technologies vital to the needs of public-sector video and television professionals at Government Video Technology Expo (“GV Tech Expo”) 2007, at the Washington DC Convention Center.

“Government video professionals are keenly interested in leading-edge high-definition television production technologies,” observes Alan Keil, VP and Director of Engineering for Ikegami. “These include cameras that leverage the advantages of the latest CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductors) imagers for native multi-format HD video capture, reduced power consumption, and high-speed imaging capabilities. Tapeless HD portable cameras are also very important in public-sector videography, and Ikegami—which pioneered tapeless portable camcorder technology more than a decade ago—has had great success in this market. Tapeless HD will be of major interest at the GV Tech Expo, as will multi-purpose HD ‘box’ cameras, and space-saving LCD HD monitors. In addition to these, high-quality standard-definition portable cameras also continue to be heavily utilized by government video professionals.”

Responding to these areas of vital interest, Ikegami’s GV Tech Expo 2007 exhibit will feature an historic addition to the Ikegami product line: the new HDK-79EC HD Multi-format CMOS camera system. Employing three 2/3-inch 2.5 Mega-pixel specified CMOS imaging sensors to achieve supreme picture quality and multi-format HD performance, the HDK-79EC’s 1920H x 1080V active-pixel CMOS sensors are the first of their kind in the television industry and are switchable between interlace and progressive readout modes. Providing a full 16:9 aspect ratio, the HDK-79EC’s CMOS sensors provide: 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p. Also available are optional 50Hz formats, 1080/50i and 720/50p, and high-speed dual-link 1080/60p, and for Super Slow Motion, 720/120p.

In addition to also employing three multi-format CMOS HD imagers, Ikegami’s HDN-X10 EditcamHD tapeless camcorder is the first to use Avid's high quality DNxHD high-quality mastering codec to deliver HD resolution, full-raster (1920 by 1080) images that can be edited on laptop and desktop systems in real time. The DNxHD codec is an open system that can be licensed for free, ensuring viability far into the future.

The HDN-X10 EditcamHD currently employs a data rate of 145 Mbps (Megabits per second) to provide 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p recording and playback using removable hard disk FieldPak2 or solid state RAMPak recording media. Ikegami's new 160 GB FieldPak2 provides over 2 hours of HD recording time. FieldPak2 and RAMPak media can be mounted and edited immediately without the need for digitizing or transcoding. Handy features of Ikegami’s HDN-X10 include Retroloop (so videographers never miss a shot), Intelligent Recording (which enables the camera to automatically record to available media space), and Timelapse Recording.

Government video professionals have many unique technology needs, and among these are the use of high-quality HD cameras for image capture in inaccessible locations. Ikegami meets this challenge with its new HDL-45 and HDL-45P one-piece full-digital HD “box” cameras. Featuring advanced 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, the HDL-45 and HDL-45P deliver superb 1080i and 720p HD image-capture, respectively, and are designed for use in such locations as traffic and weather-cam mounts, goalposts, track-side or other out-of-reach vantage points. With matching picture quality and compatibility with the same control panels as their studio camera counterparts, these box cameras integrate perfectly for flash camera, newsroom, control room, and other unmanned camera positions. Both cameras also feature a built-in servo-filter that enables insertion of a neutral density or other filters by remote control—an especially important feature for use in inaccessible installations.

Capturing the highest quality HD video from great heights is also the purpose of Ikegami’s new HDL-F50 multi-format CMOS camera, which is designed to meet the size requirements for gyro-stabilized aerial camera mounts, such as the “ball” mounts used on helicopters. The HDL-F50’s one-piece, space-saving design minimizes the number of camera input and output signals, simplifying signal transportation and allowing a gyro-stabilized ball mount to transmit camera signals with a minimum of slip rings. The HDL-F50’s CMOS imager features low power consumption and provides multi-format 1080i or 720p HD image capture.

In addition to its long history of making innovative cameras, Ikegami is also well known for uncompromising quality in video monitors. The latest examples of this excellence are Ikegami’s LCD-based HD and SD monitors. These include the HLM-2400 Wide Full HD 24-inch 16:9 LCD monitor, the HLM-910R Multi-format HD/SD 9-inch LCD monitor, and the HLM-1710WR 17-inch Multi-format LCD color monitors. All save space, are lightweight, and are low in power consumption. Compatible with all HDTV and SDTV formats, the HLM-2400, HLM-1710WR, and HLM-910R are well-suited to video security and surveillance facilities, mobile production vehicles, and all other environments in which space-saving, color-accurate, high-performance color video monitoring are a necessity.

For outstanding mobility, the HLM-910R is Ikegami’s high-end 8.4-inch HDTV LCD color monitor with TFT LCD display. Suitable for mobile or field operation, the HLM-910R can be mounted in a 19-inch rack with a two-monitor configuration. In the field, the HLM-910P is a lightweight accessory that videographers can depend on for accurate HD/SD multi-format video monitoring. Ikegami also offers a wide variety of rack-mountable color LCD NTSC/PAL video monitors to suit the many display needs of government video professionals.

As noted earlier in this press release, high-quality SDTV portable cameras continue to be heavily utilized by government video professionals. Addressing this market is the lightweight and ergonomically advanced Ikegami HL-65W DSP portable camera for outstanding performance and sophisticated features in today’s digital video production environments. Equipped with advanced digital signal processing ICs, the HL-65W’s video signals are digitized with 14-bit A/D conversion and up to 38-bit internal digital processing. This delivers superb high-quality pictures with excellent S/N ratio during all operating conditions because processing such as white shading, gamma, and DTL (detail) are all performed digitally. Delivering improved color reproduction in low light areas. In addition, newly developed AIT (Advanced Interline Transfer) CCDs offer high sensitivity of f 11 and very low smear level of minus 135dB.

Visit Ikegami during GV Expo Tech 2007 at Booth # 430 at the Washington DC Convention Center.

For more information and the Regional Office nearest you, call Ikegami’s Maywood NJ headquarters at 201-368-9171 or visit www.Ikegami.com.

Ikegami HDTV Cameras Capture Boston's Magical Title Run

Revolutionary HDK-79EC Native Multi-Format CMOS HDTV Camera Systems

Capture Boston Playoffs and Games One and Two of the 2007 World Series

MAYWOOD, NEW JERSEY, November 1, 2007—Every October, baseball fans throughout the world are captivated by the intensity of the Major League Baseball playoffs and World Series. This year, as the Boston Red Sox captured their second championship in four years, F&F Productions LLC was there throughout the team’s run to the title, capturing the drama at Fenway Park with Ikegami HDK-79EC Native Multi-Format CMOS HDTV Camera Systems from F&F’s state-of-the-art GTX-15 mobile production unit.

“We are long-time users of Ikegami cameras, and we know that they stand behind their products,” says Bill McKechney, F&F Productions’ VP of Engineering. “From image quality to service, Ikegami performance has always been top-notch. We built the GTX-15 to be an absolutely state-of-the-art HDTV production truck. The key to achieving this objective was outfitting it with the most advanced equipment available, including Ikegami HDK-79EC cameras. The result is the delivery of ultimate picture quality.”

Ikegami’s mastery of CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology, which provides such advantages as reduced power consumption, multi-format HD video capture, and high-speed imaging capabilities, was an important factor in F&F’s selection of the HDK-79EC. “We feel that CMOS represents the next generation of cameras,” McKechney states. “CMOS lends itself very well to multi-standard HD, and we fully expect it will prove superior to past acquisition systems.”

An historic addition to the Ikegami product line, the HDK-79EC employs three 2/3-inch 2.5 Mega-pixel specified CMOS imaging sensors to achieve supreme picture quality and multi-format HD performance. These 1920H x 1080V active-pixel CMOS sensors are the first of their kind in the broadcast television industry and are switchable between interlace and progressive readout modes. Providing a full 16:9 aspect ratio, the HDK-79EC’s CMOS sensors provide: 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p. Also available are optional 50Hz formats, 1080/50i and 720/50p, and high-speed dual-link 1080/60p, and for Super Slow Motion, 720/120i.

Incorporating Ikegami’s sophisticated Chip C4 ASIC video processing technology, the HDK-79EC Native Multi-Format CMOS HDTV Camera System can be configured to use with either triax or SMPTE fiber cable. Additional system components include the CCU-790A full-digital camera control unit with built-in broadcast down-converter and the CB-79HD/TA-79HD Triax Adaptor System.

Additionally, F&F has been very pleased with the performance of the HDK-79EC’s Ikegami nine-inch 16:9 color LCD viewfinder, which features an especially wide viewing angle and low lag, which is critical for the viewfinder application. “This LCD viewfinder has all the controls our camera operators require, and allows them to set up as they would like to,” McKechney explains. “We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback from our operators about the Ikegami viewfinder.”

In addition to its Ikegami HDK-79EC HD Native Multi-Format CMOS Camera Systems, the GTX-15 truck – which is capable of accommodating up to 24 cameras with three complete video positions – is also equipped with two Ikegami HDL-50 compact full digital HD cameras for POV shots and Ikegami HLM-1710WR and HLM-2200 Multi-Format HD LCD monitors. The GTX-15 was stationed in Boston for all Red Sox home playoff games, including games six and seven of their thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Cleveland Indians, and games one and two of their World Series sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

This was F&F’s third time covering the World Series. The company’s production schedule includes many other major sporting events, including the U.S. Open, where F&F’s newest mobile unit, the GTX-15, debuted in September. F&F also covers major entertainment events that require state-of-the-art HD images. “HDTV has become the standard for sports and entertainment production because of the amazing detail of the picture,” says Connie Vizaro, VP of Sales. “HD sports was the first television production area to showcase the new technology, but as more and more HD displays are in the home, other events are demanding the quality of HD as well. Every one of our mobile units carries Ikegami HDTV cameras because they are reliable, durable, and produce fantastic images.”

Ikegami Electronics (U.S.A.), Inc. is a leading supplier of professional broadcasting products in the Western Hemisphere. With U.S. offices in New Jersey, California, Florida, Texas, and Illinois, the Ikegami name is recognized worldwide for its state-of-the-art television cameras and closed-circuit TV equipment. Non-Stop Music Introduces CUEgle.com V2.0

    October 18, 2007

With Look and Feel of Premier 950 CD Broadcast Quality Collection on the Web, Top Online Library Upgrades for Improved Speed & Flexibility

SALT LAKE CITY, October  2007– Online music searches have reached a new level of speed and efficiency with CUEgle.com V2.0 (www.CUEgle.com) from Non-Stop Music. The most sophisticated online music library yet, the newest version of CUEgle.com makes it even easier for Radio Producers and other on-air creatives as well as other media professionals to search and license Non-Stop Music’s vast library of over 950 CD’s with more than 38,000 tracks, that includes dedicated News Sound Packages - designed specifically for those at radio.

Since its launch in 2005, CUEgle has provided a highly advanced music search and download engine that combines the look and feel of a physical CD collection with the quick search capabilities and instant gratification of an online library. Now with CUEgle.com V2.0, search and download functionality has been vastly improved to give users a faster, more efficient, user-friendly experience.

Visitors to CUEgle.com V2.0 find a well- designed, and user-friendly interface waiting for them once they log on. Large images of the colorful CD covers for each collection, marked by easily identifiable names such as “Action Premier 1,” “Suspense 4,” “Tenor Sax Quartet – Bossa Nova,” can be clicked on to reveal track title and length along with a brief description. Each MP3 or .WAV file can be fully previewed and downloaded straight to the user’s desktop, where it can then be easily inserted into any project. If the user chooses to use the track, the usual blanket or needle drop licenses apply.

“We created CUEgle.com V2.0 to reshape music searches from the ground up and make the process more intuitive, effective and enjoyable,” says Randy Thornton, COO of Non-Stop Music (www.nonstopmusic.com). “After almost two years online, the industry agrees: searching for, finding and downloading the ideal music cuts has been thoroughly optimized by CUEgle.com. Now, with CUEgle Version 2.0, is revolutionizing web-based music searches yet again.”

The next generation of the CUEgle.com experience is further enhanced by advanced search capabilities. Twenty-eight top-level categories from “Atmospheric Chillout” to “Country & Western” and “Kitsch Retro Lounge” help speed up searches. Users can also easily narrow or broaden their music searches with keywords. In addition, Non-Stop’s expert music consultants are available 24 hours a day/seven days a week to make suggestions regarding the Non-Stop library, made up entirely of original music composed, arranged and recorded at Non-Stop’s L.A. East sound-stage in Salt Lake City.

Organization and workflow are also a strong suit of CUEgle.com. Music supervisors managing one or more large-scale productions will appreciate the “Projects” section, which allows them to keep multiple music cues in project folders specifically designated for that project.

To streamline the review and approval process, users and their clients can view each other’s project folders, saving them the bandwidth strain of moving multiple audio files back and forth via email.

Highlights of the CUEgle.com V2.0 upgrade includes a wealth of new features, including:

File flexibility -- users can now decide which type of file they wish to download: MP3 (256k) or .WAV. Users selecting .WAV can download the files either from the Non-Stop Server, or from a hard drive that resides at the client's location.

Improved Graphical User Interface -- CUEgle V2.0 has a more pleasing look and design.

Three selectable players – Users can select to use Flash, Microsoft Media Player, and QuickTime players.  All three have rewind, fast-forward and scanning capability.

Smoother online collaboration  -- Users can more easily share and work on joint projects together. They no longer have to export xml files and email them, but instead can choose to let other users view specific project folders.

Space-efficient onscreen song descriptions  -- Previously, when a particular song had a lengthy description, much of the page was taken up just by showing that one description. With CUEgle V2.0, the entire description is still available and searchable in the database, but users have the option of having a finite number of characters show up on the screen or including the entire description.

Enhanced key word search -- CUEgle V2.0’s keyword searches are more thorough than ever before.

Refined macro search -- In CUEgle V2.0, users who select a macro button will see that the "All libraries per category" scroll-down menu reconfigures itself, automatically presenting only the catalogs that have relevant material available.  This allows the user to further refine their search in a particular library for a particular macro genre.

Complete publishing data -- All publishing information is now available on every track in the system.

Faster artwork downloads -- Once the initial cover artwork is stored in each user's cache, the system runs faster than the previous CUEgle.  (CUEgle was already the fastest running search/download system in the library world, now it is even faster!)

More information  -- The login screen will have a news area where Non-Stop will post breaking news, promotional offers, helpful hints, etc.

“The speed and efficiency of CUEgle makes it one of the most valuable music search assets available to media professionals today,” Randy Thornton says. “With CUEgle V2.0, the capabilities of this uniquely powerful system have been heightened significantly. We’re extremely proud to announce this important upgrade so that users can search, preview and download more effectively than ever before.”

Experienced TV Expert Joins FX As Creative Director

    October 18, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. — Veteran television news expert Bill Brown has joined FX Group as creative director.

Brown will contribute his extensive production knowledge to FX's award-winning set design projects, including on-site service and consultations focused on maximizing storytelling and flexibility.

"With Bill, FX will be creating the next generation of sets," said Mack McLaughlin, FX's CEO. "Bill's work makes sets come alive and change hour to hour and day to day as the news warrants," McLaughlin said.

The addition of Brown will also bring FX clients his extensive training experience, including Brown's signature Total Station Coaching. Brown will work directly with not only on-air talent but the producers, writers, directors, TDs, videographers, editors, studio camera operators and floor directors who support them.

This team-driven approach, which other consultants frequently ignore, is vital to ensure effective training with obvious benefits that last.

"Take, for example, the coach who tells an anchor team to pick up the pace by 'jumping the cue,' that is, coming in faster at the ends of each other's reads," said Brown.

"Unless that coach also meets with the production team to adjust show timing changes, directors' punches and studio crew cueing changes, jumping the cue will have your team jumping off a cliff before the end of the A block," Brown explained.

In addition, FX will give stations proven strategies to create, design, build, launch and promote a winning brand that connects emotionally with viewers.

With the addition of Brown to its industry-leading team, FX is now the only design firm offering its clients a full time studio integrator with more than 30 years of studio experience in more than 200 television stations and networks worldwide.

FX clients will benefit from Brown's extensive experience in the television industry, which includes newscast directing, producing and promotion work at stations in Washington, D.C. and Raleigh, N.C. Brown also holds the distinction of being the consulting industry's first full-time promotion and marketing specialist.

Brown has a long history of collaborating with FX, including work at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati as well as projects at WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tenn., WEWS-TV in Cleveland and CBS owned and operated affiliate KTVT-TV in Dallas.

Brown joins FX from The Coaching Company, which he co-founded and spent 22 years at as its CEO and lead creative consultant.

The Sound of HI-DEF: Stephen Arnold Music Crafts Sonic Brand For HDNET

    October 10, 2007

Distinct Musical Notes Themed to Encompass Network’s Programming Pillars

Dallas, TX – October 8, 2007 – Demonstrating that music is equally important to visual clarity in drawing viewers to television, HDNet recently tapped Stephen Arnold Music to develop a sonic brand for the high-definition network. The Dallas-based music production company, with a rich history in developing the successful sonic brands for networks, television stations, advertising agencies, film and video game companies worldwide, was asked to develop an aural logo that could be incorporated into several key branding components.

The Stephen Arnold Music team rose to the challenge by immediately reviewing HDNet’s needs, programming and core audience demographics to gain perspective on the music choices that would resonate the most with viewers.

“They wanted a very distinctive sound… a set of notes that could work naturally in indie and alternative rock style songs,” said Stephen Arnold. "We had to deliver a series of tones that could get to the heart of HDNet, do it quickly and—most of all—do it in a way that would work across multiple genres.”

The resulting aural logo is a versatile, five-note riff now used by HDNet in a variety of musical themes encompassing the network’s six programming pillars: News and Documentaries, Original Programs, Acclaimed Series, Sports, Music and Movies.

    About HDNet

HDNet (www.hd.net) provides viewers with the best in original comedy, drama, news, sports and music programming. NOAA’S NWS Upgrades Entire NEXRAD Network With Baron Technology

    October 10, 2007

Award Indicates Big Changes Ahead for Broadcast Industry

October 10, 2007 – HUNTSVILLE, AL – Baron Services, through its partnership with L-3 Communications, is part of the team that was awarded a five-year, $43 million contract from NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS). Under the contract, Baron Services will provide design, development and production for a comprehensive system-wide upgrade of the 171 NWS, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Department of Defense (DOD) NEXRAD radars. The contract, which was awarded based on the best technological solution and overall value, is likely to change the way broadcast meteorologists around the country receive and communicate weather data.

“We’re very proud to have been selected as a partner in this program and we look forward to working with L-3,” said Robert O. Baron, President and CEO of Baron Services. “Our team brought leading technology solutions to the table, and did so at the best value,” he continued. “Beyond that, this program complements our work in the television broadcast industry. We have gained significant know-how in delivering dual-polarimetric technology in the commercial broadcasting arena, and look forward to leveraging our expertise for the government as part of the NEXRAD program.”

Unlike conventional radar systems, which transmit solely a horizontal scan, Baron’s dual-polarimetric radars send out both vertical and horizontal polarized beams, and enable meteorologists to see twice as much data than they can with systems not employing this technique. Because dual-polarimetric radars use hydrometeor classification to identify the location and type of precipitation that is falling, they provide more accurate information about the size, shape, orientation and state of hydrological data. This enables forecasting with them to be highly precise.

Major market television stations, such as WHNT, KRIV, WNYW, WWOR, WRAL and WFLD, including New York, Chicago and Houston, have grown in their respective markets due to the addition of dual-polarimetric radar technology to their weather solutions.

Broadcast television stations that implement dual-polarimetric technology receive improved weather detail, achieve higher resolution imaging and increase the accuracy and precision in their forecasting. They can virtually eliminate guesswork from complex weather situations, reducing cut-ins and crawls, while tailoring their coverage to the most affected areas. Because of the NWS NEXRAD program, stations will be able to take advantage of the technological advancements that the NWS will implement during the next five years.

Dallas CBS O&O Debuts Fresh New Set From FX Group

    September 25, 2007

DALLAS — KTVT-TV , the CBS owned and operated affiliate in Dallas, has launched high definition newscasts with a new set from FX Group.

KTVT-TV debuted its new set facing heavy competition in the Dallas HD news market, so management knew the station needed to make a big impression on viewers.

Though FX has done work for stations in major cities including Philadelphia, Boston and Detroit, KTVT-TV is FX's first project for a big-three affiliate in a top-10 market.

"We're very proud of our work in Dallas," said Mack McLaughlin, FX's CEO.

The sprawling new duopoly set features two anchor areas, a weather center, flexible standup area and a multipurpose interview and sports set.

Warm wood tones and faux stonework combined with sleek curves and contemporary metal finishes combine to create a visually-stunning environment that creates an eye-catching, branded look on the station's HD and standard definition signals.

The set is built around a centralized weather center, allowing this important segment of the studio to serve both KTVT-TV and its sister independent station, KTXA-TV.

KTXA-TV's set continues the warm yet modern flair by utilizing rich, reddish-brown wood tones offset with perforated metal panels and curved graphic openings. And importantly, it is a distinct look that sets KTXA-TV apart from the KTVT-TV brand.

Both sides of the set are stocked with state-of-the-art high definition monitors that display live videos and graphics. The monitors also allow the station to quickly and efficiently brand individual shows and segments.

The entire set was specifically designed for HD broadcasting, explained McLaughlin. "We carefully planned each and every shot the station uses, ensuring the picture looks great in 16:9 and 4:3," he said.

That, combined with FX's industry-leading construction methods, means unparalleled attention to detail and quality, both extremely important points to remember when producing HD broadcasts.

KTVT-TV's set was designed and built at FX's 50,000-square foot Orlando facility, where a team of experienced designers and support staff worked one-on-one with KTVT-TV's creative and news departments.

These upgrades include a new, state-of-the-art telephone system, cutting edge upgrades to the design studio computer network and the installation of an additional wide format ink jet printer.

Included in this project was upgrades to the latest versions of 3DSMax, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite. The powerful new computer systems were selected specifically to increase the design team's efficiency and creativitys

Rounding out the upgrades is a new wide format ink jet printer, doubling FX's large format graphics production capacity.

"We're excited about the opportunities these upgrades will give us," said Carson. "By coupling the best team with the best technology, FX is truly the leader in the industry."

Panasonic to Ship New Master Quality 1080P AJ-HPX3000 P2 HD Shoulder-Mount Camera

    September 12, 2007

SECAUCUS, NJ (September 12, 2007) – Panasonic announced it will begin deliveries this month of its new AJ-HPX3000, the industry’s first native 1080p one-piece camcorder to acquire mastering-quality high definition video. With three 2/3” high-density 2.2-megapixel CCDs, the HPX3000 captures cinema-quality images in full-raster 1920 x 1080 resolution with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling, utilizing the powerful, new AVC-Intra codec.

Designed for episodic television, filmmaking and commercial production where mastering quality is essential, the HPX3000 records in industry-standard DVCPRO HD at 1080 in 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i and 60i, and in AVC-Intra. AVC-Intra, the industry’s most advanced compression technology, is a professional intra-frame video codec with bit rates of 50 and 100Mbps, utilizing the Hi-10 and Hi-422 profiles of H.264 respectively. AVC-Intra provides high-quality 10-bit intra-frame encoding in two modes: AVC-Intra 100 for full-raster mastering video quality, and AVC-Intra 50 Mbps for DVCPRO HD quality at half the bit rate, thereby doubling the record time on a P2 card. For added flexibility, the camera can also produce standard definition recordings in DVCPRO50, and is 60/50-Hz switchable for worldwide use.

The HPX3000 offers intuitive film camera-like operation and its superb performance is enhanced with advanced 14-bit A/D conversion and a 12-pole matrix color correction function. Additional high-end features include six advanced gamma settings, including Film-Rec mode (made popular by the VariCam); a Chromatic Aberration Compensation (CAC) function that corrects for lateral chromatic aberration in lenses; film-like shutter controls; built-in scan reverse and a proxy video encoder. The HPX3000 has a high sensitivity of F10 at 1,000 lux in 1080i, and a minimum illumination of .064 lx (at +56db gain-up).

The camera offers five card slots and with five 16 GB P2 cards installed, you can record up to 100 minutes in AVC-Intra 100 at 1080/24p, 200 minutes in AVC-Intra 50 at 1080/24p, 160 minutes in other AVC-Intra 50 formats, and 80 minutes in other AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD formats. Recording times will double with the release of Panasonic's 32GB P2 card in November.

In addition to offering P2 HD’s no-moving-parts reliability and innovative recording modes, the HPX3000’s solid-state benefits result in a fast file-based workflow, providing immediate access to video content from all cards simultaneously for confidence viewing.

For creative picture enhancing, the camera has a three-level Dynamic Range Stretch (DRS) function that varies the gamma correction to match the contrast within the image. A Scan Reverse function allows the HPX3000 to use an ultra prime lens or an anamorphic lens adapter to create a 2.35:1 aspect image for wide-screen cinematic shooting without image cropping. In addition, the camera offers dual optical filter wheels for separate control of ND and CC, and a flip-out, 3.5-inch color LCD monitor for easy viewing. Available interfaces include IEEE 1394A in/out, USB 2.0 in/out, genlock in with HD Tri-Level Sync or VBS in, and SMPTE time code in/out. An HD/SD-SDI input for external line recording is offered as an option.

The HPX3000 can record full 48-kHz/16-bit digital audio on all four channels, and is equipped with an RCU terminal for connecting the optional AJ-RC10G remote control unit for superb image and control adjustment.

To lower total ownership costs, Panasonic is offering a five-year limited warranty (Panasonic Broadcast’s normal 1-year basic warranty plus an extended warranty for years two through five).

The AJ-HPX3000 is available this month at a suggested list price of $48,000.

Both lenses are designed to assist camera operators in achieving shots that are always in exact focus, even in challenging situations. The Canon DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF lenses create an operator-controllable window in the HD camera’s viewfinder that targets the object operators want to focus on most sharply in the scene. Camera operators can change the window’s position and size by means of a miniature joystick on the camera handle’s focus servo control. Three auto-focus modes are included (Part-Time, Full-Time and Off). The Canon DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF are designed to assist camera operators so they can concentrate on applying their full attention to the creative aspects of framing HD images and following the action they are shooting.

In addition to these new HDgc and DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF lenses, Canon’s full line of HDxs long-field zoom lenses, HDxs studio lenses, eHDxs and HDxs ENG/EFP portable lenses, and HD-EC prime and zoom lenses for digital cinematography will also be exhibited at IBC 2007.

Along with the DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF, Canon’s line of HDxs long-field zoom lenses also include the DIGISUPER 100xs (the world’s first triple-digit lens of its kind), DIGISUPER 86xs, and DIGISUPER 75xs, all of which are widely used in sports production. All also feature Canon’s exclusive Optical Shift Image Stabilizer (“Shift-IS”) technology for rock-solid images at telephoto distances.

Canon’s IBC exhibit will feature information on its exclusive technology collaboration with Vinten, a leading manufacturer of tripods, pedestals, pan-tilt heads, camera robotics, and other innovative camera-support solutions. The Canon-Vinten collaboration integrates the advanced capabilities of Canon’s Shift-IS lens technology with the high-resolution optical encoders built into Vinten’s new Vector 950 Active pan-tilt heads. The special encoders in the Vector 950 Active provide output that is fully compatible with the Canon HD lenses. The result is the elimination of any trace of lag after fast pan or tilt shots – a great advantage in the production of fast-paced HDTV sporting and entertainment events

Canon’s line of HD studio lenses also includes the industry’s first-ever Compact Studio Lens, the DIGISUPER 22xs (model XJ22x7.3BIE-D), which provides the superior HD optical performance of a large “box-style” HD lens in an extremely compact (13.4 lb.) design appropriate to portable HD cameras configured for studio use. Other Canon HDxs studio lenses include the DIGISUPER 25xs (XJ25x6.8BIE-D) and the cost-effective DIGISUPER 23xs lens (XJ23x7B IE-D).

Canon’s eHDxs portable lenses include eight models for HD ENG and/or EFP production. These include: the HJ17ex7.6B, a lightweight zoom lens; the HJ17ex7.7B, which is widely used for high-end HD field production; the HJ11ex4.7B, which is the widest angle of view portable HD production lens offered by Canon; the Telephoto HJ22ex7.6B; the HJ21ex7.5B, which is a lens specially designed not to breathe for EFP and studio applications; the HJ18ex28B Super Telephoto HD lens with a focal-length range of 28 to 500mm (1000mm with built-in 2X extender); and the HJ40x Telephoto series of lenses. All but the HJ40x Telephoto series feature Canon’s exclusive eDrive technology, which (as referenced earlier) enables users to preset zoom, focus and iris settings, if desired.

Canon’s HD-EC (High-Definition Electronic Cinematography) prime and zoom lenses for digital cinematography include the HJ8x5.5B, HJ11x4.7B, and HJ21x7.5B zooms and six prime lenses ranging from 5mm to 55mm. All Canon HD-EC lenses feature traditional film-style lens feel and operation, which includes large, dual, luminous scales for focus (marked in feet) and iris, as well as precise mechanics and a defined control of torque with no backlash. Also part of Canon’s HD-EC line is the innovative ACV-235 Anamorphic Converter, which captures very wide aspect ratio (2.35:1) images with all available 2/3-inch 24P digital HD cameras.

IKEGAMI’S REVOUTIONARY CMOS HDTV CAMERAS CAPTURE VIDEO FROM U.S. TENNIS OPEN, NASCAR RACES, AND THE GOODYEAR BLIMP

MAYWOOD, NEW JERSEY, September 4, 2007—As consumers increasingly discover the thrilling “you are there” sharpness of High Definition Television (HDTV), coverage of professional sports events is increasingly being captured by Ikegami’s revolutionary new CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductors) HDTV cameras.

Advanced CMOS technology—offering reduced power consumption, multi-format HD video capture, and high-speed imaging capabilities—is engineered into Ikegami’s new HDK-79EC HD CMOS Camera System, which provides a full 16:9 aspect ratio and operation in 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p HD. Optional 50Hz formats 1080/50i and 720/50p, high-speed dual-link 1080/60p, and (for Super Slow Motion), 720/120i are also available. The HDK-79EC is configurable for hand-held use or “hard” field-camera operation using the Ikegami SE-79D System Expander, which includes a 9-inch 16:9 color LCD viewfinder (with wide viewing angle and low lag) and an interface with HD telephoto zoom lenses. The camera has docking-style construction, allowing easy interchange between triax and fiber adapters to meet the cable requirements of different clients and different venues. Major mobile television services provider F&F Productions used Ikegami’s HDK-79EC cameras for its extensive coverage of the U.S. Open for CBS and the USA Network.

Ikegami’s HDL-50 Series Compact One-Piece POV cameras also deliver native Multi-Format HDTV imaging, and are designed for mounting in inaccessible locations for capture of dramatic action shots. Users of the HDL-50 include Robo-Vision, which mounts the camera on its remote pan-heads for capture of “speed shots” at auto races, and Goodyear, which has deployed an HDL-F50 on its famed Spirit of America airship for coverage of major West Coast sporting events.

“HD broadcast and content production professionals demand the best; their artistic visions, careers, and livelihoods depend on it,” notes Les Kozlowski, CTO and Founder of AltaSens, premier supplier of high-performance CMOS image sensors. “The marriage of Ikegami's world-class camera know-how with our CMOS imaging System-on-Chip (iSoC) technology is pushing all performance metrics to levels previously unachievable. CMOS iSoC delivers full Nyquist-limited resolution throughout a broad dynamic range.”
