CBS 6 'Beat the Traffic' helps Richmond drivers SAVE gas, time + money

Richmond, VA, and Campbell, CA -- With the price of gasoline now topping $4 a gallon in Richmond, avoiding lengthy traffic delays has become an even bigger concern for the region's travelers and commuters. CBS 6 WTVR-TV recently launched its expanded Beat the Traffic reporting, using state-of-the-art traffic reporting technology from Triangle Software. The CBS 6 Beat the Traffic team uses the award-winning solution to report on road speeds, traffic hot spots, incidents, construction and events to allow its viewers to better plan their day and find the best routes to their destination. The system is featured in CBS 6 Beat the Traffic segments throughout the morning and evening commutes and anytime on the internet at www.wtvr.com, where traffic reporter Amanda Meadows provides point to point trip times and more, along with real-time traffic maps for the Richmond and Washington, DC areas.

Richmond drivers lost over 10 million hours and over 6.3 million gallons of gas due to rush hour traffic in 2006, according to the Texas Transportation Institute 2007 study. "With the cost of gas and Congestion skyrocketing, it is even more important to make smart driving decisions, such as when to leave, what route to take, and how to take advantage of other commuting alternatives," notes CBS 6 Beat The Traffic reporter Amanda Meadows. "Our visually-striking, easy-to-understand animated traffic maps, up-to-the-minute travel times and road speeds, and ability to fly into traffic trouble spots allow us to provide the most advanced traffic reporting in the market." Amanda maintains a popular traffic blog including traffic forecasts for the week and weekend, supported by the new technology.

CBS 6 has also partnered with GRTC RideFinders to provide information on transit, van pool, carpool, rideshare, and telecommuting solutions to region viewers and employers. "Together, our goal is to help viewers save money and time, while improving our region's air quality and environment," said CBS 6 WTVR Vice-President and General Manager Peter Maroney.

"We are proud to support CBS 6 and the Richmond region", says Andre Gueziec, President and CEO of Triangle Software, LLC, makers of the Beat the Traffic software. We are excited by the innovative on-air and web reporting provided by CBS 6, and are confident that viewers will appreciate the dynamic, animated road speeds, flows, forecasts and travel times -- a first for the region -- and the easy-to-use web and mobile traffic maps.
