Devlin Design Group Selected to Create HD Set Designs for 14 Sinclair Stations
April 4, 2008
Hunt Valley, MD:
Sinclair Broadcast Group is making a major commitment to HD with a
complete HD conversion of 14 of their television stations over the next three
years. Their senior management team has selected Devlin Design Group to create
the scenic design for all 14 stations.
“We contacted a number of top design firms,†said Joe DeFeo,
Vice-President of News at Sinclair Broadcast Group, “but not everyone was ready
or able to handle this large of a project.
Dan and his team came up with set designs that met our HD needs both on
a practical and design level. All of our
key corporate people liked DDG’s ideas – they came the closest to perfect.â€
Mark Nadeau, Senior Director, Sinclair Broadcast Group,
agreed. “Right off the bat, DDG just
wowed us with their design. It was
unique, but functional; with an attention to detail we didn’t see in the
competing designs.â€
Nadeau says DDG’s extensive HD experience was key. “We chose Dan
and his team because they’re a leader with virtual and HD sets. Other designers have a done a few HD
conversions, but DDG’s been there since the beginning of the digital switch. They gave us the answers that made us feel
comfortable, and showed us that they really know what they’re doing.â€
Devlin Design Group has created HD scenic designs for
broadcasters worldwide, including WRAL-TV the first U.S. station to broadcast in high
definition.
“Sinclair is really raising the bar with this project,†said Dan
Devlin, DDG’s Creative Director.
“They’re not just “going digital†– they’re completely transforming
their key stations for a new age in broadcasting. Their 14-station commitment to HD goes way
beyond getting new gear. Sinclair is
taking full advantage of HD’s superior environment with new scenic design,
lighting and sound. Their viewers – and
their competitors – are really going to take notice.â€
The first two Sinclair stations to make the HD transformation
will be WSYX-TV in Columbus and WBFF-TV in Baltimore, and are set
for a May 2008 launch.
