Last summer, many camps around the country reported enrollment was down
because the recession had taken a bite out of family budgets. This year
the picture is a little brighter, but plenty of parents still can't
afford the cost of sending their kids to traditional camps.
In Philadelphia, WCAU reporter Monique Braxton found that creative collaboration has helped some families provide a low-cost camp experience:
According to the American Camp Association, two thirds of camps across the country say their enrollment rates are the same as last year or better. That still leaves a third of the camps at less than capacity. The ACA says most of its member camps offer scholarships and discounts that some parents may not know to ask about. What's the situation at camps in your area?
