Newsroom Diversity Project
Since 1991, RTNDF’s Newsroom Diversity Project has promoted the hiring, training, promotion and retention of women and minority professionals in electronic news with a unique mix of professional training, educational programs and research. The Project has actively positioned itself as a key provider of diversity training and awareness for electronic news professionals. RTNDF's affiliate organization, RTNDA, signed a covenant with UNITY and its member organizations to commit to efforts to increase diversity throughout electronic journalism.
The Newsroom Diversity Project promotes cultural diversity in America’s newsrooms and specifically seeks to promote and increase the minority participation in newsroom management. RTNDF understands the importance of developing programming and resources for working minority news professions as well as for minority students. The Project provides training and educational opportunities for minority news professionals at every step of their career.
The Project fulfills its mission through:
- News management training workshops for minority professionals in television and radio [more info];
- Mentoring and career counseling for minority college students to expose them to a wide variety of career options in electronic journalism including management opportunities;
- Internships, scholarships and fellowships for minority college students and young professionals preparing for or enhancing careers in television and radio news [more info];
