By Ryan G. Murphy, RTDNA Digital Media Editor

RTDNA joins digital, broadcast and print journalists around the world today in tipping our caps to one of the most renowned and influential journalists in history, Edward R. Murrow, who died 45 years ago today on April 27, 1965 on his farm in Pawling, New York.

Murrow's honesty, integrity and delivery style are unparalleled and set a very high standard for future generations of journalists. The Edward R. Murrow awards, given by RTDNA annually, represent journalism excellence and are given to organizations that best embrace Murrow's distinguished ideals for electronic journalism.

At the RTDNA convention in 1958 Murrow's "wires and lights in a box speech" challenged the status quo and urged news professionals to make the most of the two forms of electronic media, radio and television.
