The Shield Bill passed the House this week.  The Senate version of the bill expands the definition of “journalist” and would allow courts to compel disclosure unless a specific promise of confidentiality has been made.  What do you think of the Senate version?

Senate Version of Shield Law

Anyone who's worked with law
enforcement knows many sources
won't or can't comment without a
promise of confidentiality. I
don't know about Senators, many of whom are attornies and understand the necessity of
priveledged, who would expect
journalists to do their jobs without this protection
