Charging for web content

We've established the content is free -- but then, we did that with radio and television, too and now satellite radio collects subscription fees while cable and satellite not only collect subscription fees for multiple channels but some of those channels collect their own subscription fees.

The issue isn't whether people will pay for something they want, the question is at what value? Micro-charging is an exciting idea and concept worth pursuing but tying today's content to yesterday's models of valuation will be doomed from the start.
