RTDNA Introduces Enhanced Edward R. Murrow Awards, Calls for 2010 Submissions

WASHINGTON— RTDNA is pleased to announce new category divisions for the 2010 Edward R. Murrow Awards and - for the first time ever - will welcome submissions from exclusively online news organizations in each of the categories.

"When we changed the "D" in our association and foundation names to stand for "Digital" it was more than just a marketing move.  The Murrow award has been the top award in the field for those working in radio and television.  Now it holds the same honor for those working in digital media, "said RTDNA Chairman Stacey Woelfel.

Audio and video will be judged in the following categories: Overall Excellence, Breaking News Coverage, Continuing Coverage, Writing, Hard News Reporting, Feature Reporting, Investigative Reporting, News Documentary, News Series, Newscast, Use of Video/Sound, Sports Reporting, Broadcast Affiliated Website and Non-Broadcast Affiliated Website.

Each award category - excluding Overall Excellence and Writing - will feature separate video and audio winners. The Website category will be divided into two parts: broadcast-affiliated sites and non-broadcast affiliated sites. Entries from exclusively online news operations are welcome in every category for the 2010 awards.

Building on last year's successful inaugural year, all entries, as well as submission of the audio and video to accompany the entries, must be done online.

"As our organization has embraced the digital world, so too has the Murrow entry process," said Woelfel.  "Online submission and judging saves entrants time and money and makes administration of the program more accurate and efficient."

Entries for the 2010 Edward R. Murrow Awards will be accepted starting today, December 10, 2009. For submission guidelines, instructions on how to enter and a list of categories, click here.
