News ReleasesRTNDA becomes the Radio Television Digital News Association; Unveils New LogoOctober 13 marks the day that RTNDA, the Radio-Television News Directors Association becomes the Radio Television Digital News Association. The Radio Television News Directors Foundation becomes the Radio Television Digital News Foundation. In addition, RTDNA debuts a new logo to go along with the new name.
Stacey Woelfel, chairman of RTDNA, said in his speech announcing the change at the RTDNA Awards Dinner last night, “What will change is how we approach news coverage and how we represent the industry. For some not familiar with RTNDA, the name 'Radio-Television News Directors Association' implies that we might not have services, information or importance to anyone who isn’t a news director. As you know, that's not the case. RTDNA is for all electronic journalists. RTDNA will also be for all electronic journalists, including the newest members of our newsrooms working on the digital platforms.”
RTDNA used the opportunity of the name change to debut a roster of new programs and products, including health insurance, international travel protection insurance and dental insurance for its members, monthly webinars, and retail discounts. More information about these programs can be found on RTDNA.org.
This is the second name change in the organization’s history. Founded in 1946 as the National Association of Radio News Directors, it became RTNDA in 1952.
RTDNA is the world’s largest professional organization devoted exclusively to electronic journalism. RTNDA represents local and network news professionals in broadcasting, cable and other electronic media in more than 30 countries.
