RTNDF and Ivanhoe Announce New Health Reporting Internships and Fellowships
In celebration of Ivanhoe Broadcast News’ 30thanniversary, Ivanhoe and The Radio and Television News Directors Foundation have joined forces to provide two new training opportunities for journalists.
RTNDF and Ivanhoe are offering a post-graduate internship fora recent journalism graduate. The three-month internship will provide professional training in health reporting at Ivanhoe headquarters in Orlando, Florida, in the summer of 2009.
The second opportunity is for a working reporter or producer at a television station, who will receive a two-week fellowship to travel to the Ivanhoe headquarters to focus on health and medical reporting. Applicants should be television journalists with less than 10 years’ experience.
The internship and the fellowship include stipends and an expenses paid trip to the annual RTNDA International Conference in
Las Vegas, April 19-22,2009, and a year's membership in RTNDA. Applications are available at RTNDA.org and are due February 1, 2009. RTNDF’s Scholarship and Fellowship Committee will select the winners in March and introduce them at the RTNDA convention.
"Ivanhoe has been reporting on medical news for 30years and we want to share our experience by offering this fellowship to journalists who want to be the best in their field,” said Marjorie Bekaert Thomas, president of Ivanhoe Broadcast News. “Medical reports are among the most important, life-changing news that stations provide their viewers. Journalists will advance their knowledge and their ability to report compelling, relevant and factual medical news."
RTNDF president Barbara Cochran said, “RTNDF is pleased to join with Ivanhoe to provide training opportunities for journalists at the start of their careers and as they progress down their career paths. RTNDF was established to provide scholarships to journalism students and the new internship and fellowship enhance our shared commitment to support electronic journalists”
The application and submission requirements are available at RTNDA.org
