RTNDF Names Ivanhoe Broadcasting Fellowship and Internship Winners

Emily Baucum, a reporter at KOLR/KSFX-TV in Springfield, MO, has been awarded the first RTNDF Ivanhoe Broadcasting Medical Reporting Fellowship.  Sara Shookman, a senior broadcast journalism major at Ohio University was selected as the first winner of the RTNDF Ivanhoe post graduate internship for training in health and medical reporting. 

Baucum and Shookman were selected from a pool of applicants who submitted examples of their journalism work, an essay describing career goals and a recommendation from a news director or professor.

The RTNDF Ivanhoe three-month post-graduate internship will provide professional training in health reporting at Ivanhoe headquarters in Orlando, Florida, in the summer of 2009.  The RTNDF Ivanhoe Fellowship provides a working reporter or producer at a television station with a two-week fellowship to travel to the Ivanhoe headquarters to focus on health and medical reporting.  Baucum and Shookman will receive expenses paid trips to the annual RTNDA International Conference in Las Vegas, April 19-22, 2009, and a year's membership in RTNDA.

This is the first year Ivanhoe and RTNDF have presented the fellowship and post graduate internship.  Ivanhoe Broadcasting created the awards to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. 

Ivanhoe Broadcast News is the country's largest television news-gathering organization covering medical and science breakthroughs, family health and issues of importance to women. 

The Radio and Television News Directors Foundation provides training programs, seminars, scholarship support and research in areas of critical concern to electronic news professionals and their audience.  As the educational arm of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, RTNDF offers professional development opportunities for working and aspiring journalists and journalism educators.
