RTDNA has announced the winners of the 2019 Student Edward R. Murrow Awards. The awards, presented in five categories, recognize outstanding work by student journalists.

On this episode of Annenberg Radio News, we were forced to cover a tragedy and mourn the victims of the mass shooting that had occurred at the nearby Borderline Bar & Grill the night before. We sent reporters to Thousand Oaks and spoke to them live at the scene of the aftermath, where recovery efforts were underway to help the grieving community.

“Hate in America,” an investigation examining intolerance, racism and hate crimes, is the 2018 project of the Carnegie-Knight News21 program, a national multimedia reporting project produced by the nation’s top journalism students and graduates.This year, 38 students from 19 universities traveled to 36 states, including a 7,000-mile road trip around the country. They conducted hundreds of interviews, reviewed thousands of court documents, FBI data and interviewed more than 300 people.

Excellence in Video Reporting: Hurricane Recovery in Puerto Rico

During Spring Break of 2018, a group of Montclair State students, faculty and staff traveled to Puerto Rico on a reporting mission to see how residents were trying to get their lives together after Hurricane Maria. This special half-hour edition of Montclair News Lab is devoted to their trip and reveals what they discovered about the meaning of resilience.
The winners will be recognized at the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall in New York City on October 14 along with the winners of the 2019 National Edward R. Murrow Awards.
