Government transparency, following decades of gradual decline, has taken a major hit this year under the Trump administration, including layoffs of record custodians, bizarre policies ignoring previous requests, and outright ghosting of public record requesters. Efforts, however, are under way to push back.

Join FOIA expert, David Cuillier, in this webinar on how to navigate data and information requests in this increasingly difficult time for government transparency.

Meet the Trainer

David Cuillier is director of the Joseph L. Brechner Freedom of Information Project at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. He was a reporter and editor before entering academia, teaching at University of Arizona for 17 years and then at Brechner since 2023. He is co-author of The Art of Access: Strategies for Acquiring Public Records, a member of the FOIA Advisory Committee under the National Archivist, and has testified three times before Congress regarding FOIA. He is former president of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Freedom of Information Coalition. At Brechner, he coordinates national Sunshine Week, conducts research on freedom of information, and in the past 20 years he has taught more than 15,000 journalists strategies for acquiring public records.
