RTDNA, NMOG call for passage of Journalist Protection Act

RTDNA and its Voice of the First Amendment Task Force has joined with ten other press freedom groups – all part of the News Media for Open Government consortium – in writing to Congressional and Senate leadership seeking passage of the Journalist Protection Act. The act would make it a federal crime to assault a journalist who is actively working to serve the public by gathering and reporting on issues of concern.

RTDNA supported the Journalist Protection Act when first introduced in 2018 and when reintroduced last year.

This work is part of a broader RTDNA effort to advocate for the public's need to know what issues are impacting communities, and journalists' obligation under the First Amendment to provide that information.
