    RTDNA24 Playlist

“The Joker” - Steve Miller Band

Steve Miller, the frontman, a Milwaukee native, spent his early days soaking in the city vibes in the 414. And that "woo-hoo" sound in "The Joker", is just Miller goofing around, making his own version of a slide whistle.

    “Skinny Love” - Bon Iver

Justin Vernon, Bon Iver's front man, is from a little town near Milwaukee called Eau Claire. Their hit "Skinny Love" was written in a cabin up north Wisconsin during a time when he was just soul-searching and feeling all the feels.

"Blister in the Sun" - Violent Femmes

Violent Femmes kicked off right here in the city of Steeples back in 1980, just a bunch of musicians meeting up at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. Their jam "Blister in the Sun" was recorded in one take in a studio bathroom. Their song is flush with authenticity!

“Love Sneakin' Up On You ” - Les Paul, Joss Stone, Sting
Les Paul, the renowned musician and inventor of the solid-body electric guitar, born in Waukesha, Wisconsin,  located just outside the Fresh Coast. Paul built his first solid-body electric guitar, nicknamed "The Log," out of a railroad tie and other spare parts. How's that for ingenuity?

    “Mornin” - Al Jarreau
Al Jarreau, the legendary jazz singer, born and raised in Milwaukee's historic Sherman Park neighborhood, where he attended Lincoln High School. His hit song "Mornin'" was featured prominently in 1985 comedy film soundtrack, "Brewster's Millions," – really put it on the map for smooth jazz lovers everywhere.

    “Jolene” - Dolly Parton
Did you know that Dolly Parton's hit song "Jolene" was inspired by a red-headed bank teller she met while on tour in Wisconsin? The encounter prompted her to write the song, which went on to become one of her most iconic hits.

    “Milwaukee” - Wyatt Flores
The song's lyrics talks about how freezing Milwaukee winters can get. Like, in 2019, during that crazy "Polar Vortex," it hit -23°F! No worries though - we'll be chillin' in the original brew city at RTDNA24 during the summer– way more our style!

    “Pure Imagination” - Gene Wilder
The legendary actor, known for his roles in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," was born in Milwaukee - where imagination thrives. Just head down to the Historic Third Ward and Walker's Point to find a kaleidoscope of artistic experiences that captivate residents and visitors alike.

“Fly Like an Eagle” - Steve Miller Band
Steve Miller Band was featured prominently in the soundtrack of the 1996 film "Space Jam," starring Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes characters - and those lyrics have been looping in my head ever since.
